Killing Time

After months of conducting a search, you’ve finally found the perfect candidate.  There’s only one problem—while you were taking your sweet time to mull over the details, compose an offer, and work everything out with HR, this candidate has taken a position with another company that was wise enough to know that perfect candidates don’t last long on the job market.

The current candidate-driven market in healthcare IT is a whole new ballgame.  Organizations can not expect candidates to wait around for them to get their act together.  With multiple enticing offers on the table, qualified candidates are in the driver’s seat.  Companies need to start catering to their candidate’s timeline, not the other way around.

If you want great candidates, you have to be willing to take a risk and move quickly as the grass is not going to get any greener.  A mere 24 hours can make the difference between an acceptance or rejection of an offer.  When you find a candidate that you can see as a valuable future employee, the lag time between interviews to offer should be minimal.  If you are struggling to place candidates in your current vacant positions, you may want to evaluate your hiring process as time really does kill deals.
