Moffitt Cancer Center has retained Kirby Partners to conduct a nationwide executive search for candidates for their Director, Digital Business Operations.

The Moffitt Medical Group (MMG) is Florida’s largest multidisciplinary medical group practice that is dedicated to cancer care. The MMG, based at Moffitt Cancer Center, also provides services at other hospitals and clinics throughout the state of Florida and beyond.

Director, Digital Business Operations Job Overview

Moffitt Cancer Center recognizes that the health care industry is continually evolving; in 2019 they hired a Senior Vice President/ Chief Digital Innovation Officer to lead technology for Moffitt.

The CDIO, Dr. Edmondo Robinson, views digital as an enabler and accelerator of Moffitt’s overall strategy. The organization’s strategic plan “Impact 2028” includes three pillars:

  • Personalized Care Continuum
  • Digital Care & Discovery Accelerator
  • Market Expansion

The CDIO’s “Digital Innovation” team consists of three departments:

  • IT
  • Health data services
  • Digital

At this time, the Digital department is seen as a “start up.” The department will ultimately be headed by a Vice President and have four areas of focus:

  • Business Operations
  • Research and Education
  • Clinical
  • Consumer

The Director, Digital Business Operations, is a new role designed to push the boundaries of how digital can enhance business operations strategy by developing real-world modern digital capabilities to support optimization, cost and revenue improvements, enterprise growth, and long-term digital goals. This “trailblazer” position will build a team of digital innovation specialists who will work on projects such as a digital ecosystem for staff members, robotic process improvements, and digital enhancements to Human Resources and Finance processes and procedures.

This director-level position will work across leadership and delivery teams to develop the right digital framework for business operations. The Director is responsible for collaborating with business stakeholders, software teams, and vendors to ensure well-defined business and technology roadmaps, capability models, and prioritized product backlogs in support of the overall business strategy. The Director leads the facilitation of business transformation strategies into real-world solutions including the delivery plan and collaborating on architectural governance and implementation.


Moffitt Cancer Center seeks a dynamic and visionary leader with change management experience in a complex healthcare environment and a strong understanding of business operations.  

To be successful, the Director, Digital Business Operations needs to continually question how improvements can be made through digital technology.  He/she should exhibit a start-up mentality, extreme energy, and a high degree of executive presence. Collaboration, leading through influence and customer focused service are also important.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 10+ years technology change management in a complex environment
  • 5+ years system analysis, business analysis and or application support
  • 5+ years relevant experience in healthcare, research, academic, or scientific environment
  • 3+ years progressive management experience in IT, preferably in healthcare
  • Proven track record of digital innovation within a business operations environment
  • Extensive project management and Agile experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree 
  • Agile, Scrum, Lean and/or PMP certification
