Organization Overview:

Erlanger Health System is the seventh largest public healthcare system in the United States, with five Tennessee-based hospitals that serve patients in 50 counties. Erlanger is the tri-state region’s only Level I Trauma Center, providing the highest level of trauma care for adults. Erlanger has six LIFE FORCE air ambulances in its fleet. Erlanger’s Children’s Hospital houses the region’s only Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, as well as a pediatric trauma team, Emergency Center, and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Erlanger also serves as the region’s only academic teaching hospital, affiliated with the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga Campus.

Epic Program Director Position Description:

Having just been through a very successful Epic implementation of both Inpatient and Ambulatory, the organization is recruiting an Epic Program Director to be responsible for the entire Epic system. This individual will have the opportunity to lead a large team of approximately 80 people and lead optimization.

Reporting directly to the CIO, the Epic Program Director will be part of the core IT leadership team and work collaboratively with other directors who are over the technology, informatics, and other IT systems. One of the key roles of this position will be partnering with the CMIO to enhance the physician experience and improve and enhance workflows. The position also requires assisting several user and governance boards with prioritization. Erlanger is seeking a visionary who can apply their previous implementation and optimization experience to lead them forward.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and assist Clinical Business Analysts in analyzing and documenting business requirements and processes; communicate requirements to technical personnel through the construction of basic conceptual data, process models and flowcharts, and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate projects, priorities, performance reporting related to the clinical EMR.
  • Develop status reports and perform risk analysis to inform both Business and Executive Sponsors of the status of EMR Project.
  • Provide technical and analytic expertise for the development of the Clinical EMR.
  • Coordinate with end users, stakeholders, and project sponsors in order to assess business and clinical needs; create business, functional and technical requirements documents based on captured data and in accordance with departmental protocol/standards. Define external interfaces, constraints, quality issues and other non-functional requirements.
  • Oversee project management team with identified risks, concerns, and ambiguities discovered during the gathering of requirements; assist team in developing solutions.
  • Partner with project managers to complete requirements documentation in accordance with project schedule.
  • Oversee planning, organizing, facilitating, and lead meetings and workgroups as well as oversee and execute follow-up activities.
  • Ensure software development team accounts for all defined requirements in coordination with quality assurance team. Ensure that all quality standards comply with internal policies and industry standards.
  • Document changes to baseline requirements through standard change control process.
  • Document software test plans, technical requirements, release notes, user and training guidelines and other materials.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support unit acceptance testing and subsequent deployments in coordination with other team leaders.
  • Oversee end user and application support functions including problem solving and resolution of application function defects.
  • Develop and execute project presentations.
  • Participate in special projects as required.
  • Provide training to and serve as a mentor for Clinical Business Analysts and/or other appropriate project team members; manage and evaluate work products for assigned team members.
  • Lead the training, development, and implementation of process improvements for all projects and applications.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and provide analysis and propose change and communicate strategies.
  • Provide supervision and direction to junior clinical business analysts, clinical business analysts assigned at Levels I and II, consultants, and/or other appropriate project team members.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the EMR is fully manned of Clinical Business Analysts, Clinical Business Analysts assigned at Level I, II and III, consultants, and/or other appropriate project team members as need to support the EMR.
