Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Director 

Carilion Clinic has retained Kirby Partners to support its search for an ERP Director.

Over the next seven years, Carilion Clinic is investing more than $1 billion in the region through expanding and modernizing its buildings. These plans include an almost-500,000 square foot tower expansion to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH) that opens in July 2025.

Position Overview

In this newly created role, the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Director will report directly to the CIO and oversee the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of the organization’s ERP systems, specifically Workday. This role is integral to the success of the Workday implementation. The ERP Director will serve as the primary liaison between IT and the organization’s Human Resources, Finance, and Supply Chain departments.

With the go-live slated for October 1st, 2025, the ERP Director will get up to speed quickly and assist in the go-live phase of Workday. The successful candidate will have deep experience in Workday’s human capital management, finance, and supply chain modules, including implementation and oversight of the applications.

Carilion Clinic is a highly collaborative environment where relationships are foundational to success. The ERP Director must develop strong relationships across the organization and work in conjunction with the Executive Steering Committee as well as process leads from different functional areas.

The ERP Director will be part of a high-performing ERP team. The successful candidate will have at least five years of experience leading Workday teams with progressive leadership responsibility.

Job Responsibilities

• Program Management: Provide leadership and oversight for the ERP systems, including Human Capital Management, Financial, and Supply Chain systems. Work with functional areas to ensure maximum return on investment by evaluating, prioritizing, and coordinating requests from the user groups.
• Strategic Planning: Assist ERP Steering Committee with strategic planning and road mapping of ERP projects and updates to facilitate implementation and optimization.
• System Performance: Design policies and procedures to analyze system performance; collaborate with functional areas to ensure operational effectiveness and drive continuous process improvement.
• Business Process Integration: Evaluate the impact of ERP applications on existing business processes and assist user groups in implementation and adoption.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with peers and executive stakeholders to ensure the technology enables a high-quality user experience and key organizational strategies and outcomes.
• Budget Management: Plan, coordinate, and facilitate the creation of departmental, entity, and consolidated annual budgets. Oversee the development and maintenance of a cost accounting system.
• Employee Management: Manage the daily work of the ERP Administrators. Set group goals based on the direction of ERP Program Leadership. Work with the HR Manager to assess performance and provide feedback.
• Customer Service: Consistently deliver the best in customer service and patient care. As a team member, demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in each encounter with patients, families, visitors, and other employees.

Qualifications

Required Education

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
• Four years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in Workday’s HCM, finance, and supply chain modules
• 5+ years of progressive leadership experience within Workday

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant field
• PMP certification
• UKG Pro Workforce experience

Location

Relocation or residency within a commutable distance from Roanoke, VA is required. Relocation assistance will be available. The ERP Director will be expected to be on-site a minimum of three days a week.
