Position Overview

The Senior Director of Clinical Applications & Shared Enterprise Platforms provides strategic and operational leadership for Valley Health’s clinical application ecosystem and select enterprise platforms that intersect with clinical workflows. This includes Epic and ancillary clinical systems, as well as matrixed responsibilities for components of HR, Supply Chain, Finance, and Digital applications that directly support clinical operations or require cross‑functional integration.

This leader collaborates closely with the CAO organization, IT leadership, and operational executives to ensure that shared platforms function cohesively across the enterprise. The Senior Director drives workflow optimization, supports digital transformation initiatives, and ensures that clinical and cross‑functional applications enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and staff experience.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Application Leadership

• Provide strategic direction for Epic and all clinical applications, including ancillary systems (Lab, Radiology, Cardiology, Oncology, Pharmacy, etc.).
• Lead optimization efforts in partnership with CMIO, CNIO, and clinical leadership to improve usability, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
• Oversee application lifecycle management, including evaluation, implementation, upgrades, and retirement of clinical systems.

Matrixed Enterprise Platform Responsibilities

The Senior Director holds shared accountability for enterprise applications that intersect with clinical workflows. Full ownership resides within the CAO organization; this role ensures alignment, integration, and clinical representation.

HR Systems (Matrixed)

• Partner with HRIS leadership to ensure workforce management, scheduling, credentialing, and learning systems integrate effectively with clinical workflows.
• Provide clinical input into HR system enhancements that impact staffing, competencies, or clinical operations.

Supply Chain Systems (Matrixed)

• Collaborate with Supply Chain leadership to ensure item master, inventory, and procurement systems support clinical care delivery.
• Ensure clinical requirements are represented in supply chain technology decisions and integrations with Epic.

Finance Systems (Matrixed)

• Coordinate with Finance and Revenue Cycle leaders to support integrations between clinical documentation, charge capture, and financial systems.
• Ensure clinical workflows align with financial compliance, billing accuracy, and operational reporting needs.

Digital & Patient Experience Platforms (Matrixed)

• Partner with Digital Strategy and Patient Experience teams on tools such as patient portals, digital front door, CRM, and engagement platforms.
• Ensure digital solutions integrate seamlessly with clinical systems and support patient‑centered care.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Governance

• Serve as a key member of enterprise governance structures for application strategy, prioritization, and investment.
• Represent clinical and operational needs in enterprise platform decisions led by the CAO organization.
• Build strong relationships with IT, Informatics, HR, Supply Chain, Finance, Digital Strategy, and service line leaders.

Operational Leadership

• Lead and develop teams responsible for clinical applications and shared enterprise platform support.
• Establish modern support models, including shared services, product teams, and agile delivery practices.
• Manage budgets, vendor relationships, and resource allocation for clinical applications and matrixed responsibilities.

Compliance, Security & Standards

• Ensure clinical applications meet regulatory, accreditation, and security requirements.
• Support enterprise compliance efforts for HR, Supply Chain, Finance, and Digital systems where clinical workflows intersect.
• Promote standardization, interoperability, and data governance across platforms.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree required (Healthcare, Informatics, Information Systems, Business, or related field).
• Master’s degree preferred (Healthcare Administration, Informatics, Business Administration, or related).

Experience

• 7–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare IT, clinical applications, or enterprise systems.
• Experience working in matrixed organizational structures.
• Strong background in Epic and clinical workflow optimization.
• Experience collaborating with HR, Supply Chain, Finance, or Digital teams preferred.
