Director of Technology Job Overview

Partnering with TMC’s new CIO, the Director of Technology will be taking the organization on an exciting technology journey that will result in a great digital experience for TMCH employees and patients.

This position directs and coordinates the planning, production and activities of the IT Infrastructure environment, including Network Services, Server Management, Interfaces, Telecommunications, Desktop Management, Clinical Engineering, and Data Security.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or equivalent required.

  • Thorough knowledge of best practices for system analysis and review, developing documentation and SOW’s.
  • Knowledge of budget development and management, and analyzing costs for new projects.
  • Skill in leading, guiding and evaluating performance and providing training to improve performance.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries or complaints from employees, patients and/or their representatives, and the general public.

CIO Job Overview

As part of the executive leadership team, the VP/CIO of TMC Healthcare oversees all aspects of Information Technology, including Biomed, digitalization, BI, population health, data, Informatics, and security. TMC is strategically positioned for the future and this key role will report to the CEO. The organization has the largest market share in Tucson and is continuing to add physician practices.

Leading a team of over 150 individuals, the organization is looking for a successor for their retiring CIO. As a long standing Epic customer, they are continuing to improve stakeholder use and satisfaction as well as continuing to implement in physicians practices in the area. They see Epic as a tool for physician alignment with TMC. The executive leadership team is very collegial and collaborative, has a great sense of humor, and have mutual respect for one and other.

The organization is looking towards technology and this critical position will continue moving innovation and technology forward. While currently using kiosks, they are ready to improve their “digital front door” and improve their patient experience.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree
  • Previous experience serving as a CIO in a large, complex community health system
  • 10+ years of computer system technology experience
  • 6+ years in a leadership role, preferably as a CIO
  • Proven ability to lead and influence organizations leaders
  • Proven background in driving innovation
  • Relocation to or residency in the Tucson area

Director of Technology Position Description:

The Director of Technology assists the Chief Information Officer (CIO) in directing the daily activities of Information Systems and Telecommunications for all facilities within St. Joseph’s/Candler Healthcare System.

  • Identifies and implements technologies that align with the needs of the business unit
  • Ensures technology is operating at levels that meet or exceed the expectations of the co-worker community by putting into place survey mechanisms and action plans that can be enacted when necessary
  • Demonstrates the attitude of excellent customer service and ensures end users’ technology and customer service needs are met
  • Protects hospital systems and data through development of a solid disaster recovery plan, security, and integrity measures as well as redundancy
  • Recruits, manages, and develops staff.
  • Functions as a backup to the CIO and is part of the CIO succession plan

  • Develop a technology and information security strategy that is aligned with the strategic plan and budget
  • Strengthen change control process
  • Ensure IT security plan is in place
