Senior Director, Data Science, Genomics Position Overview

Rady Children’s Institute for Genomic Medicine is seeking a Senior Director, Data Science, Genomics to serve as head of data science for the organization. 

This is a new position reporting to the VP of Research and Clinical Management of the Genomics Institute.  

This is an incredible opportunity for an experienced leader to implement state of the art approaches to analyze next generation genomic sequencing and other “omics”.  

The Senior Director will have the opportunity to build a team of data scientists.

Qualifications

Rady Children’s Institute for Genomic Medicine seeks candidates with strong training in the analysis and interpretation of next generation genomic sequencing data to advance precision medicine. 

Successful candidates will need to demonstrate their ability to build and sustain a stellar team of data scientists, contribute and participate in internal and external presentations, peer-reviewed manuscripts, conference proceedings, and applications for extramural funding. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD required in an area of study in a field related to the position
  • 10+ years of related experience
  • 5+ years of experience providing data science leadership in the field of Genomic Medicine 
  • 3+ years of leadership experience
  • Expert level familiarity with data science and statistical modeling (e.g. Python, R, Stark, SAS and equivalent) 
  • Familiarity with the data science challenges facing the modern genomics laboratory and healthcare settings including common workflow models; capable of planning for future growth and change
  • The ability to use machine learning and other artificial intelligence methods

Director, Genomics Research and Projects Position Overview

Reporting to the VP of Genomics Research and Clinical Management, the Director Genomics, Research & Projects functions as both a collaborative and independent administrator, strategic planner, and project manager. 

The Director will design, implement, maintain, and monitor institute-wide research and project priorities, initiatives, activities and policies and procedures that optimize day-to-day operations, promotes research, and builds a positive culture to support research across the institute. 

Responsibilities include seeking new extramural funding sources and communicating with external funding agencies. 

Additionally, this person oversees the regulatory aspects of research and ensures with ongoing compliance. As a skilled technical writer, the director facilitates and mentors team members developing scientific presentations and articles.

Senior Director of Bioinformatics Job Overview

Rady Children’s Hospital leads the field of pediatric genomics, one of the most innovative forces in healthcare today. The Senior Director of Bioinformatics will play a key leadership role as Rady Children’s Institute for Genomic Medicine (RCIGM) embarks on their vision for the next 5-10 years sequencing genomes of rare diseases.

During the next five years, the Bioinformatics division plans to increase the number of whole gene sequencing from 2,800 to over 10,000. 

They also plan to move from diagnostic to therapeutic work while partnering with the pharmaceutical industry to identify new therapeutic agents. 

In addition, they plan to disseminate the vast knowledge accumulated through sequencing to benefit the 70 children’s hospitals that use their services. 

The Senior Director of Bioinformatics will provide the leadership for the department that includes four service lines:

  • Genome informatics

The position reports to the VP of Research and Clinical Management and leads a team of four managers and approximately 15 individuals. 

The Senior Director will not only grow their team but also grow RCIGM’s premier status in the hottest area of genomics.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s degree required

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience providing BI leadership in the field of genomic medicine
  • 3+ years of leadership experience
  • Knowledgeable about BI challenges facing modern genomics laboratory and healthcare settings, including common workflow models, and the capability to lead future growth
